This is my new marumage style katsura. Though it's a style normally worn by mature women, we dressed it up with really ornate kanzashi to mimic the hairstyle of an Edo Period princess for the Anime North kimono fashion show. Now that I've got this new beauty in my possession, I'm probably going to sell my old takashimada style katsura.
superb wig! Where do you get them from?!
It's beautiful... what will you be dressed up like? A lady or a geiko?
Thanks! Myself? I haven't used it yet, but our Edo Period Princess looked great in it. I'll post some pictures eventually.
Beautiful! This is similar to the style geisha use to wear, isn't it? At least it reminds me of some geisha katsura I remember seen...
Thanks! They may have worn it at some point. My book of Japanese hairstyles says, "Marumage - Meiji or End of Edo Period - Worn by married women. The bigger the hoop at the back, the younger the woman. Red was used for younger women and blue for older women. The okami of okiya wore this style too."
