DARARI OBI
Maiko wear a distinctive type of obi tied in a long dangling knot that reaches all the way fro their shoulder blades down to their ankles. As a result a maiko's obi is a whopping 6 meters long; 2 meters longer than an average woman's obi. On the end of the maiko's obi, the crest of her okiya is emblazoned. The vermillion obi displayed here once belonged to the Masuume Okiya in the Gion Kobu kagai of Kyoto. During her apprenticeship, this obi was worn by a well known geisha named Koucho.
