Description

Wasuregatai - Unforgettable.

This is a highly formal black crested furisode from the taisho era. These kimono were often worn as wedding garments in the past, however they were also worn for very formal occassions and New Year's celebrations.

This kimono seems to be made from rather narrow fabric making the kimono itself quite narrow. It also has a collar that is sewn half width. This makes me wonder if the wearer might have been very young. She may have just graduated to wearing an adult's kimono.

Fabulous yuzen work O.O! I can't believe how well preserved it is for it's age! I want to agree with your theory about it being used as a "graduation" kimono because black formal either come with just a pattern on the bottom of the sleeves and hem or fully patterned all over (which is usually really formal for teenage girls to attract a man :p) The matsu at the top most likely adds to that.
