I did some kimono surgery this week!

So this isn't a kimono that I made from scratch but I did unpick a good deal of it and add some extra length. This is actually something I did for a friend - the kimono is vintage and it's hers.

Basically I spent the better part of last week unpicking this furisode, removing it's collar, cutting it in half, putting in the extension and sewing it all back together. There was also a section of it that had been taken in when the kimono was originally made, so for the sake of even more length I let that little bit out. I pretty much took this 165cm kimono and made it closer to 190cm.

Taking this girl apart was VERY interesting, I learned a whole lot. I can't wait to try out the new things I learned on my kurotomesode!

Anyways, after the sewing was finished I gave her a good steam ironing. And now that her stay at my kimono spa is complete, it's time to send her back home!

I love the bold patterns on this furisode so I included some nice big detail shots too.

Wow you did a beautiful job with this, I own a Kimono and know how much work goes in to one. The construction looks wonderful, thats a great why to increase the length. Thank you for sharing.
