Poinsetta and Holly by Kurokami-Kanzashi Poinsetta and Holly by Kurokami-Kanzashi
This is actually a piece that I made for a very specific occassion. One of my choirs had a Christmas concert last weekend and the ladies were all told to wear black - but with bright Christmasy jewellery. So of course, I made myself a nice Christmasy kanzashi! This piece features three poinsetta blossoms surrounded in clusters of holly leaves and berries.

The poinsettas were made from the lining of a ruined taisho era kimono, while the holly and falls were made from the scraps of my Ayame-sama furisode.

I've always wondered where do you buy those silver and golden flowerlike things you put in the centre of the flowers... what are those called? where to find them?

They're called bead caps and you can get them at pretty much any bead store.

how do you get your 'knife' fold to lay like the round fold? do you just make the beginnings of a knife pleat then finish it like the round one?

I'm not sure what you mean by "knife" fold. All my petal shaping techniques are detailed in my kanzash tutorial. It's in the tutorials and resources section of my gallery.

Outstanding decoration.
You know, I always wonder how much it takes to put all those small pieces together.

The the flower petals are glued to a paper/wire base, then the wires attach everything a the back.

How pretty!! :) I love the falls! I've just started making kanzashi and was thinking I'd do something similar for my choir concert this Christmas.

Out of curiosity, what're the flowers attached to? And/or, do you have a picture of the underside?
