Higurashi - Evening Cicada
This little beauty is the newest addition to my kimono collection. I was once told that ro kuromontsuki furisode are among the rarest of kimono, so when I found this one, I jumped on it. I got her as part of a kimono lot which included this furisode and a purple haori. I ended up getting them for a great price because of the way that the seller chose to display the garments. In most of the auction photos, the seller had the haori over top of the kimono, and that hid the true length of the sleeves. So basically, this beauty looked like a plain old ro kurotomesode. It was only after looking through all the auction images that I found one which showed this was a furisode.
This beautiful kimono features a striking ryouzuma (mirrored design) on the skirt. The partterns are all white on the kimono's black ground. The designs feature carnations, cock's comb, bush clover, summer grasses, bundled branches and streams of water. I named ths kimono Higurashi (Evening Cicada) because it reminds me of a warm summer evening, and cicadas are a sign of summer.
The haori I got with this, is a delicate pale purple. Its quite elegant, but I don't have much interest in haori, so I'm probably going to list it in my etsy shop soon.
