Description
This is a kurotomesode I made from a bolt of vintage Japanese silk. Kurotomesode is the most formal type of kimono worn by married women - and this one having five crests on it is the most formal kind of kurotomesode. Another person who commonly wears this type of kimono is the geiko (geisha). A geisha's kurotomesode differs from a regular one, though, in that it is longer and padded along the bottom hem for traditional dancing. That type of kimono is called hikizuri or susohiki which is translated as "trail the skirt."
Though this kimono is a regular kurotmesode, I decided to wear it similar to the way a geisha would. Hee hee, I wanted to get some nice photos of myself sporting my new katsura (wig). I didn't bother forcing the deep swooping collar at the nape of the neck, though.
The obi is also vintage from Japan.
